‘Adopt-a-School’ – Madison & Jackson

Before the beginning of the school year, cards will be available in the church foyer with the name and information of school staff from Madison and Jackson. Please take as many as you would like and be praying for these staff members throughout the school year. They would also love to receive a card of encouragement throughout the year! If you have any questions please contact Sherry Graham.

St. James will again participate in the Food 4 Kids Backpack Program at Jackson Elementary School. Last year the St. James volunteer team was recognized as ‘Volunteer of the Year’ at Jackson. What a special honor for us! Come join our team!

The Food 4 Kids Backpack Program provides weekend food packages to chronically hungry elementary school students from low-income households who are at risk of hunger over the weekend when free school meals are unavailable. Every other Friday afternoon students on the program are discreetly given a bag of food which is tucked into their backpacks. Each bag contains enough food to see the students through the weekend.

St. James provides weekend food for approximately forty-two children attending Jackson Elementary School. The cost to provide food for one month for a child is $20. If you would like to donate to this program, make checks payable to St. James UMC and put “backpacks” on the memo line.

Volunteers meet every other Friday to pack the bags. If you would like to volunteer, contact Mary Anne Sides.
